Biography

Sara Bernardini is a professor of Computer Science at the University of Oxford and a Tutorial Fellow at Mansfield College. Her academic journey includes positions at Royal Holloway, King's College, University College London, and has included stints at MIT and NASA Ames as a Principal Research Scientist. She has also served as a Senior Fellow at the UK National Oceanography Centre and at the Alan Turing Institute. Sara is a member of the Executive Council of the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI), where she leads the Partnership Committee for the International Conference on Automated Planning and Scheduling (ICAPS) and currently serves as Program Chair for ICAPS 2024 and Associate General Chair for AAAI-23. Notably, she initiated the Bridge Program at AAAI-23 to foster cross-fertilization among AI disciplines, a program that continues into AAAI-24 and AAAI-25. Sara is also an associate editor for the Artificial Intelligence Journal and has managed guest editor roles for special issues, including one on 'Risk-Aware Autonomous Systems', underscoring her commitment to AI safety.
