Dr. Sara Blair

Biography

Sara Blair is the Patricia S. Yaeger Collegiate Professor of English at the University of Michigan. Her academic focus includes Modernism, Twentieth Century American literature, and the intersections of Material Culture, American Visual Culture, and African American Studies. With a Ph.D. from Stanford University gained in 1989, Professor Blair has authored and edited numerous works, including 'Half Looks: Lower East Side Afterlives', 'Harlem Crossroads: Black Writers Photograph Twentieth Century', and 'Remaking Reality: U.S. Documentary Culture 1945'. Her research aims to bridge literature and cultural narratives through the lens of photography in the digital era. She has received support from notable organizations, including the National Endowment for the Humanities, and has worked collaboratively with various arts institutions. Alongside her research, Professor Blair actively contributes to academic programming and advocacy for diversity within the humanities, serving as Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs at her institution.
