Dr. Sara Closs Davies

Biography

Sara Closs-Davies is a Senior Lecturer in Accounting and Finance at the University of Manchester. She has a rich background in accounting, taxation, and public administration with over fifteen years of prior experience in the accountancy and taxation industry. Her research primarily focuses on the intersection of accounting and public policy, particularly examining the societal implications of tax and social welfare systems. Sara employs a qualitative research methodology using critical interpretivist approaches to explore the role of accounting technologies and their impact on social inequality. In addition, she teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses on accounting and taxation and has supervised numerous research projects. She is also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and holds various external advisory roles, including as an Academic Advisor for the Alliance Manchester Business School, and serves as a trustee director at Citizens Advice Ynys Môn. Her scholarly contributions are recognized through multiple research grants, awards, and her active involvement in professional associations such as the British Accounting and Finance Association.
