Dr. Sara Ek

Biography

Sara Ek is a Professor and the Deputy Head of the Department of Immunotechnology at Lund University. She is a principal investigator involved in strategic research areas and initiatives that advance cancer research. Her focus areas include the molecular functional analysis of lymphoid proliferative disorders, with an aim to uncover biological answers to clinically important questions surrounding improved diagnosis, stratification, and treatment for patients suffering from lymphoma. Professor Ek's research addresses the major challenge of heterogeneity in cancer malignancies, utilizing tools to capture this heterogeneity and providing evidence of variations in tumor-related signaling pathways and interactions with the surrounding immune microenvironment. She collaborates closely with clinicians to conduct advanced molecular investigations using patient materials derived from clinical trials, and employs cutting-edge sequencing, spatial omics technologies, serum protein profiling, and functional screening in her work. Professor Ek is actively involved in multiple research projects aimed at understanding and addressing treatment resistances in cancer therapy, particularly focusing on mantle cell lymphoma and related conditions.
