Sara Geffert joined Brown Medicine Faculty Division of Infectious Diseases in October 2019. She earned her Master's degree in Medical Laboratory Science with a concentration in Clinical Microbiology from Northeastern University. Afterward, she decided to pursue her medical degree at Wayne State University School of Medicine in Michigan. Geffert trained in Internal Medicine at the University of Connecticut and completed her Infectious Diseases Fellowship at Brown University, which included training at Lifespan and VA Memorial Hospitals. Following her fellowship, she continued as a Post-Doctoral NIH Research Fellow, focusing on Microbiology and Infectious Diseases at the Miriam Hospital, alongside additional training at the Rhode Island Hospital Clinical Microbiology Laboratory. In August 2019, she became certified as a Diplomate of the American Board of Medical Microbiology (ABMM). In 2022, Geffert took on the role of Associate Director of the Microbiology Infectious Diseases Laboratory at Lifespan. Her research interests include the evaluation of rapid diagnostics and quality improvement in microbiological testing.
