Biography

Sara Gerke is an Associate Professor at the College of Law, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. She is the Richard W. & Marie L. Corman Scholar and also serves as an Associate Professor at the European Union Center. Professor Gerke's research focuses on ethical and legal challenges surrounding artificial intelligence, big data, and health law, particularly in the contexts of the United States and Europe. Her work includes comparative law and ethics, as well as the ethical implications of cutting-edge medical developments, such as gene therapy and digital health innovations. With over 80 publications in health law and bioethics, her research has appeared in leading law journals and medical journals, including the New England Journal of Medicine and Stanford Technology Law Review. Professor Gerke has received significant funding for various interdisciplinary projects, including studies on AI-assisted surgery and colorectal cancer prevention. She has been recognized as an Emerging Leader by the National Academy of Medicine and has contributed expertise to numerous national and international policy efforts, including reviewing guidelines for the World Health Organization. Her diverse teaching experience includes courses in Health Law and Food and Drug Law, and she has lectured internationally at renowned institutions.
