Biography

Sara Guyer researches and writes about the legacies of Romanticism. She is the author of 'Romanticism and Auschwitz' (Stanford University Press, 2007) and 'Reading John Clare: Biopoetics, Sovereignty, Romanticism' (Fordham University Press, 2015). She has edited special issues of journals such as 'Diacritics', 'Romantic Circles', and 'South Atlantic Quarterly'. Guyer has been actively engaged in the public humanities, serving as President of the Consortium of Humanities Centers and Institutes (CHCI) from 2016 to 2022, and she currently edits the 'World Humanities Report'. Before her appointment as Dean of Arts and Humanities, she directed the Center for the Humanities at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she established new coalitions among public universities and public-serving institutions. Under her leadership, fellows and new programs were created to support humanities research and education. Additionally, she ran annual humanities conferences to engage high school students and teachers. Her work spans various articles, chapters, and edited volumes, contributing vital scholarship to her field.
