Sara Kim Hjortborg is an ethnographer and cognitive scientist whose work spans areas of cognitive anthropology, sports studies, martial arts, and philosophy of mind. Sara is currently working as a postdoctoral fellow on a John Templeton Funded Project titled ‘Concepts Dynamic Assemblages: Cultural evolution and human ways of being.’ This project investigates the foundational mechanisms and effects of skill acquisition and bodily training from an integrative cognitive ecological perspective. As a member of the Microethnography Lab, she is developing a novel methodology toolkit for the qualitative-systematic examination of skill learning and coaching activities. Sara received her PhD in Cognitive Science from Macquarie University in 2023, where her doctoral research, which connected philosophy of mind and ethnographic studies of martial arts, earned her the Vice-Chancellor's Commendation for Academic Excellence.
