Biography

Sara E. Imperiale is a Visiting Clinical Lecturer in Law at Yale Law School and an Oscar M. Ruebhausen Distinguished Fellow. She has been instrumental in leading strategic litigation efforts at the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) to combat environmental hazards, particularly in low-income communities of color through coalitions aimed at environmental justice. Imperiale has been with NRDC since 2013 and also served as an Adjunct Professor of Law at New York University School of Law in 2022. She holds a Master of Environmental Law and Policy and a Juris Doctor from Vermont Law School, where she graduated summa cum laude and acted as a Staff Editor for the Vermont Journal of Environmental Law. Imperiale earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Muhlenberg College, graduating summa cum laude and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa in 2010. In addition to her legal practice, she contributes to the Environmental Justice Legal Services Advisory Board for Alternatives for Community and Environment. Imperiale is admitted to the bars of New York and New Jersey and is licensed to practice in the U.S. District Courts for the Southern District of New York and the District of New Jersey.
