Biography

Sara Kozameh received her Ph.D. in Latin American and Caribbean History from New York University in 2020. Her research specializes in the Cuban Revolution, focusing on social movements, popular uprisings, agrarian history, and Black radicalism. Professor Kozameh is currently completing a book entitled 'Harvest Revolution: Agrarian Reform and the Making of Revolutionary Cuba,' which centers on the actions of ordinary people during the upheaval of the revolution and rethinks the origins of the revolutionary project. Before joining UC San Diego, she was a postdoctoral research fellow at Princeton University's prestigious Shelby Cullom Davis Center for Historical Studies from 2020 to 2022 and an ACLS Emerging Voices postdoctoral fellow at Vanderbilt University from 2022 to 2023. Professor Kozameh has published her research in notable journals such as Cuban Studies and Souls: A Critical Journal of Black Politics, Culture, and Society. Her article in Souls, 'Black, Radical, Campesino in Revolutionary Cuba,' has been well-received and recognized with an honorable mention for the Tibesar Prize granted by the Conference on Latin American History. She has also contributed to popular outlets discussing Latin America, including NACLA, OnCubaNews, and Jacobin. Additionally, she serves as an Assistant Editor for the journal 'Historias Agrarias de América Latina,' based in Santiago, Chile.
