Biography

Sara Mahabadi is an Assistant Professor at the University of Alberta's Department of Strategy, Entrepreneurship Management. Her research examines entrepreneurship through the lens of organizational theory, focusing on how investors, such as venture capitalists and accelerator firms, select and support startups. She employs ethnographic observations, interviews, and archival data to understand the processes by which selection and support influence hiring and accelerate startups. Sara earned her MBA and PhD in Management (Organizational Behavior) from McGill University's Desautels Faculty of Management in 2017 and 2023, respectively. Her academic career began at McGill, where she held positions for several years before joining the University of Alberta in July 2022. She has received multiple awards, including the Alberta School of Business EFF-SAS Awards for the 2022-2023 academic year, along with teaching and research grants. Her work has been presented at various conferences and published in peer-reviewed journals, contributing to the understanding of entrepreneurial identities and job design in startup contexts.
