Biography

Sara obtained her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from the University of Bologna, Italy, in 2014, followed by a PhD from the University of Queensland, Australia, in 2021, where she focused on the pathology of Chlamydia pecorum disease in koalas. She completed a Doctor of Veterinary Science (DVSc) residency program in veterinary anatomic pathology at the University of Guelph, Canada, in 2024, with research interests in novel vaccine development for domestic species. In 2025, she became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP). Her expertise encompasses diagnostic pathology, immunology, infectious diseases, and zoo/exotic animal pathology. Her current research interests include the pathology and immunology of wildlife infectious diseases, molecular virology, and diagnostic pathology. Sara is involved with various professional associations, including the Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP) and the Wildlife Disease Association (Australasia section).
