Dr. Sara Ramshaw

Biography

Sara Ramshaw is a Professor at the University of Victoria in the Faculty of Law, where she also serves as the Director of the Cultural, Social and Political Thought program. She has a diverse academic background, starting with a BA (Hons) from the University of Toronto, followed by an LLB and LLM from the University of British Columbia, and a PhD from the University of London, Birkbeck College. Ramshaw's expertise lies in arts-based approaches to law, with a specific focus on improvisatory arts such as music, dance, and theater. She has published extensively in international journals and has been invited to speak at various Commonwealth events. Her research interests encompass feminist and intersectional legal theory, critical legal studies, and poststructural legal theory, reflecting her commitment to exploring how law intersects with the humanities. Previously, she has held academic positions at the University of Exeter and Queen’s University Belfast and has clerked for the Ontario Court of Justice. Her innovative approach to legal studies makes her a key contributor in her field, particularly in the integration of the arts within legal discourse.
