Biography

Sara Shirowzhan is a Senior Lecturer at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in the School of Built Environment. Her research interests include technologies relevant to the built environment such as advanced Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Building Information Modeling (BIM), sensing technologies, digital twins, and artificial intelligence applications aimed at creating sustainable and resilient cities. Sara co-convenes the Smart Cities Infrastructure Cluster and also serves as a co-lead for the Work Integrated Learning Community Practice. Additionally, she teaches and supervises students in courses related to City Analytics, GIS, and Construction Informatics at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Sara has been recognized for her contributions to the field, receiving the Outstanding Paper Award from the International Society for Digital Earth in 2023. She holds a PhD in Geomatics Engineering from UNSW and is involved as an editorial board member for several prestigious journals including Nature/Scientific Reports and Buildings.
