Biography

Sara Hallum Søndergaard is a Guest Researcher in the Section of Epidemiology at the University of Copenhagen. Her primary research interests focus on the influence of pregnancy complications on women's later-life health, specifically through her involvement in the research group 'Microchimerism Epidemiology' (ME). She studies the bidirectional trafficking of fetal and maternal cells during pregnancy, known as fetal-maternal microchimerism, and its potential impact on maternal and offspring health. Currently, she is pursuing her PhD, investigating the persistence of cells of presumed fetal origin in women's blood and their association with later-life risks of cancer and cardiovascular diseases. Additionally, she is researching preeclampsia, a serious complication of pregnancy, and its relation to early life cardiovascular disease risks.
