Dr. Abood earned a Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Michigan State University, USA. After completing an internship in large animal medicine and surgery at the University of Minnesota, she attended Ohio State University for a clinical nutrition residency and PhD. Prior to her residency, Dr. Abood worked in Research and Development at Ralston Purina for 5 years. From 1999 to 2016, she served as the Assistant Dean for Student Programs at Michigan State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine, where she taught courses in small animal nutrition, communication skills, veterinary ethics, and veterinary leadership. Her research interests include nutrition support for hospitalized patients, obesity management, and the intersection of veterinary nutrition and communication. In 2009, she started her own nutrition consulting business, Sit, Stay, Speak, and in 2017, she launched Pet Recipe Designers, collaborating with colleague Dr. Rebecca Remillard. Currently, she supervises graduate students in nutrition residency programs, including Master’s candidate Shawna Morrow and Nutrition Resident Dr. Manuela Fischer.
