Biography

Sarah Anschütz is an anthropologist specializing in migration and mobility, currently serving as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Human Geography and Spatial Planning at Utrecht University. Her current research investigates aspects of young people's transnational lives between West Africa and Europe, focusing on migration development and the complexities of mobility patterns and educational trajectories. She is leading a three-year research project funded by the Research Council - Flanders (FWO), which aims to further explore the fundamental role of digital media in changing the nature of young people's transnational engagements and mobilities. Methodologically, she employs multi-sited, mobile multimodal ethnographic approaches, utilizing graphic anthropological and participative digital methods to reveal new dimensions of the inner lives of her subjects. Sarah's published work, which includes illustrations and outputs from her PhD dissertation, captivates audiences with its innovative approach to dissecting the experiences of migrant youth's transnational mobilities. Before her position at Utrecht University, she conducted PhD and postdoctoral research on the nature and implications of these mobilities in Ghana and Belgium as part of the ERC-funded MO-TRAYL project.
