Biography

Sarah Brierley is an Associate Professor in Comparative Politics at the London School of Economics. Her research primarily focuses on the themes of state, corruption, and electoral politics in Sub-Saharan Africa. She is currently working on a book manuscript which examines why the public sector remains politicized despite the meritocratic recruitment of top bureaucrats in Ghana. Brierley employs a variety of research methods including original surveys, field experiments, and in-depth interviews to explore these topics. Her findings have been published or are forthcoming in esteemed journals such as the American Journal of Political Science, Journal of Politics, British Journal of Political Science, Electoral Studies, and Journal of Contemporary African Studies. Dr. Brierley has previously held a position as an Assistant Professor at Washington University in St. Louis. She earned her Ph.D. in political science from the University of California, Los Angeles.
