Professor Sarah Brough is the Head of the School of Physics at UNSW. She has been instrumental in leading Australia's new astronomical survey of the southern sky, securing significant funding from the Australian Research Council for access to the Vera C. Rubin Observatory's Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST). Brough has published over 280 research papers focused on understanding galaxies, particularly how they evolve over time and in different environments. With a keen interest in faint starlight, intracluster light, and tidal features, her research delves into the previously invisible aspects of galaxy histories. At UNSW since January 2017, she has held leadership roles including Research Director from 2018 to 2020. As an Australian Science Lead for LSST, she represents the country in international collaborations with the European Southern Observatory and has been involved in constructing the next-generation Giant Magellan Telescope in Chile. Brough is dedicated to promoting diversity in science as Chair of the Astronomical Society of Australia's Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity Astronomy Chapter and as Associate Dean of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion in her faculty. Her work has been recognized with multiple awards, including the Dean's Staff Excellence Award and the ARC Outstanding Research Supervisor Award for her contributions as an observational astronomer leading a research group addressing various critical questions in Galaxy Evolution.
