Biography

Sarah H. Cleveland is the Louis Henkin Professor of Human Constitutional Rights at Columbia Law School. With a J.D. from Yale Law School and an M.St. from Lincoln College, University of Oxford, she has been a pivotal figure in international law, especially regarding U.S. foreign relations law and human rights. Cleveland over the years has served as a counselor on international law and legal adviser at the U.S. Department of State, and she is a co-director of the Human Rights Institute at Columbia Law School. Her contributions to the American Law Institute as a co-coordinating reporter for the Restatement (Fourth) of Foreign Relations Law highlight her expertise. Cleveland's career also includes representing migrant farmworkers as a Skadden Fellow and serving on various esteemed boards, including the International Review of the Red Cross. She has written extensively, co-editing significant publications on U.S. foreign relations law. Cleveland is a former Rhodes Scholar and has held positions at prominent law schools.
