Dr. Sarah Dunnigan

Biography

Sarah Dunnigan is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Edinburgh, specializing in English literature, particularly focusing on Scottish medieval and Renaissance literature. She completed her MA at the University of Glasgow and her PhD at the University of Edinburgh, where she also held a British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowship. Dunnigan's research encompasses aspects of Scottish women’s writing, fairy tales, ballads, and the history of children's literature. She has co-edited several volumes, including works on Scottish traditional literatures and Scottish children’s literature from the long nineteenth century. As a co-founder of SELCIE, she is involved in initiatives aimed at recovering the forgotten history of Scottish children’s literature and has collaborated with Edinburgh’s Museum of Childhood to curate exhibitions that highlight hidden heritage in children's literature. Dunnigan has supervised various PhD projects that explore themes related to medieval women's writing and fantasy narratives, indicating her commitment to mentoring the next generation of scholars. Her academic work has contributed significantly to the understanding of the connections between literature and cultural history in Scotland, especially during the reign of Mary, Queen of Scots.
