Biography

Sarah Elliston completed her law degrees and initially practiced as a barrister in London before joining the University of Glasgow's School of Law in 1994. Her teaching focuses exclusively on Medical Law at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Throughout her tenure at the university, she has contributed to various public and professional organizations, including serving on Local Research Ethics Committees and the Department of Health Steering Committee on Xenotransplantation. Additionally, she has participated in working groups drafting guidelines for the removal of tissue from children for cancer and potential future fertility treatment, and she was a member of the Scottish Review Group on the Retention of Organs Postmortem. She has also been involved in writing guidance on the legal aspects of treating children in Scotland in collaboration with the British Medical Association. Moreover, she serves as the Scottish Case Editor for Butterworths Medico Legal Reports, where she writes the medical law section.
