Sarah Haigh is a Professor of Materials Characterisation at the University of Manchester, UK. Her research focuses on enhancing the understanding of nanomaterials, their structures, and properties through advanced imaging techniques, particularly using transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Since joining the University of Manchester in 2010, she has developed innovative methods in situ TEM imaging, and her work has significantly advanced the characterisation of functional 2D materials and stacked heterostructures. Professor Haigh completed her undergraduate and doctorate degrees in Material Science at the University of Oxford from 2004 to 2008 and has contributed more than 200 peer-reviewed journal papers, with an H-index of 73 and 25,000 citations. She holds directorship roles in the University’s Electron Microscopy Centre and the bp International Centre for Advanced Materials, overseeing collaborations aimed at achieving net-zero goals. Her research includes imaging analysis of novel 2D materials, the application of high spatial resolution energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and the study of ion-induced degradation of nanostructures, aligning her work with UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Includes MSc in Advanced Electrical Power Systems and MSc in Communications and Signal Processing.
