Dr. Sarah Hall

Biography

Sarah Marie Hall is a Professor of Human Geography at the University of Manchester, specializing in feminist economic geography. Her research encompasses the broad field of geographical feminist political economy, focusing on socio-economic inequalities and the relationships shaped by lived experiences of social difference. Since joining the University of Manchester in 2012, she has advanced through positions from Hallsworth Research Fellow to her current role as Professor. Hall’s research interests include themes of austerity, economic change, social reproduction, care ethics, and feminist methodologies. She has led significant projects such as the UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship on Austerity Altered Lifecourses, exploring the impacts of austerity on young people's life courses in various European regions. As a member of the Morgan Centre for the Study of Everyday Lives and previously co-chairing the Urban Justice, Gender and Social Difference Feminist Collective, Hall actively engages in community-driven research. She advocates for marginalized backgrounds within academia, reflecting her own working-class roots. Sarah is committed to employing participatory approaches that empower communities and engage them in co-creating research outcomes that are relevant to their lives and futures.
