Biography

Sarah Hayden joined the University of Southampton in 2016, previously held Associate Lectureships in Visual Cultures at Goldsmiths, University of London, and lectured occasionally at University College Cork and the National College of Art and Design, Dublin. Her interdisciplinary research focuses on the relationships between art and experimental writing practices, with an emphasis on the intersection of voice and text in accessing contemporary art. Currently, Sarah is completing a book on voice in contemporary art for the University of Minnesota Press. Her earlier research culminated in the book 'Curious Disciplines: Mina Loy Avant-Garde Artisthood,' published in 2018, which positions Loy as a significant theorist within 21st-century American poetics. Moreover, she has contributed to various artist-led projects and was involved in the AHRC Innovation Fellowship titled 'Voices in the Gallery.' Sarah's teaching encompasses modules on poetic language and the performative aspects of writing, drawing on a range of contemporary authors and artists.
