Biography

Sarah Howard is a Senior Research Associate with a focus on anthropology and history. She has a background in studying public health and child care within the context of socialist world histories. Her research primarily examines state practices and labor histories. Sarah completed her ESRC-funded PhD in Anthropology at Goldsmiths College in 2020, analyzing Ethiopia's developmental state through the perspective of its lowest-level employees. She has held postdoctoral positions at the University of Birmingham in the Department of African Studies and Anthropology, and at Birkbeck, University of London in the School of Historical Studies. At Birkbeck, she contributed to the Wellcome-funded collaborative project 'Connecting Three Worlds,' which sought to integrate concepts from socialist world history with global health narratives of the twentieth century.
