Sarah Hunt, also known as Tłaliłila’ogwa, is an Associate Professor and Canada Research Chair in Indigenous Political Ecology at the University of Victoria. She is a Two-Spirit queer scholar-activist with over a decade of experience engaging in research focused on Indigenous peoples and communities, with a particular emphasis on the relationships between embodied scales of Indigenous life, governance, and natural and supernatural worlds. Sarah's research seeks to redefine justice and foster expressions of self-determination and land-based cultural practices that center gender-diverse individuals, women, and youth. As a member of the Coastal Justice Collective, she collaborates with students, community members, and colleagues to address intersecting questions of power, wellbeing, and knowledge sovereignty. Her scholarship particularly explores coastal worldviews and ways of knowing, integrating theory and praxis. Sarah is a recipient of several awards including the UVic President's Distinguished Alumni Award in 2022 and the AAG Glenda Laws Award for Social Justice in 2017. She is currently accepting graduate students and actively engages in interests surrounding gendered nature governance and justice for Indigenous communities, especially among coastal nations.
