Biography

Sarah Idzik returns to Carnegie Mellon University English after receiving her PhD in Communication Studies with a focus on Rhetoric from Northwestern University. Her work is situated at the intersection of rhetoric, Asian American and ethnic studies, and critical adoption studies. She centers her research on the rhetorics of race and racialization, particularly in the context of Asian American and Asian diasporic communities in the U.S. Her dissertation analyzed the rhetorics surrounding transnational adoption from Asia to the U.S. from the 1950s to the present, tracing themes of charity, rescue, and paternalism that have contributed to the marginalization of Asian American adoptees. In her teaching, she covers topics related to race and racialization in rhetoric, as well as courses in Asian American and ethnic studies and adoption studies.
