Dr. Sarah Kandil

Biography

Sarah Kandil, MD, is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics specializing in Pediatric Critical Care at Yale School of Medicine. She is a pediatric intensive care doctor working with children experiencing critical illnesses and is known for her role as a pediatric sedation specialist providing comfort to children during imaging procedures. Dr. Kandil has contributed to developing a scoring tool to assist transport teams in making early triage decisions. Her research focuses on systematic methods to improve patient care quality, nutritional management, and metabolic changes in critically ill children. Additionally, she serves as the Deputy Quality Safety Officer at Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital, leading collaborative efforts to enhance clinical outcomes and patient safety within the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. Dr. Kandil is dedicated to improving care standards and reducing unplanned extubations and venous thrombotic events. She enjoys working closely with families in the PICU, providing reassurance and comprehensive care to children in distress. Her ongoing clinical interests include evaluating hyperglycemic management in the PICU and the impacts of glucose control on patient outcomes.
