Dr. Sarah Lewington

Biography

Sarah Lewington is a Professor of Epidemiology and Medical Statistics at the Nuffield Department of Population Health at the University of Oxford. She serves as the Deputy Head of the Department and the Director of Graduate Studies for taught courses. A Senior Research Fellow at Green Templeton College, Sarah leads the department's Global Population Studies Group, focusing on major avoidable causes of premature adult mortality, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. Her work includes generating reliable epidemiological evidence on the primary causes of non-communicable diseases and building local capacities to conduct epidemiological studies in low-resourced settings. Sarah co-leads the 'Molecules to Health Records' Research Driver Programme, which integrates electronic health records, genomics, and molecular data to improve disease diagnosis, therapy, and prevention. Additionally, she is the Chair of the Medical Science Division’s Graduate School Committee and a Scientific Advisor for the MSc in Global Health Science and Epidemiology, involved in proposing a Master of Public Health in Research.
