Dr. Sarah Mazzilli

Biography

Sarah Mazzilli is an Assistant Professor at Boston University in the Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine, specializing in Computational Biomedicine. She holds a Doctorate from the University of Buffalo and has previously earned her Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees from the University of Buffalo and Bridgewater State University, respectively. Her research focuses on investigating the molecular events associated with the progression of premalignant squamous lung lesions and developing targeted chemoprevention strategies. She utilizes advanced single-cell multiplex imaging technologies to study the immune-epithelial interactions that facilitate lung carcinogenesis. Mazzilli collaborates with national and international partners as part of the Pre-Cancer Genome Atlas initiative to enhance the understanding of lung cancer development and to improve early detection and interventions. As a member of the Boston University Genome Science Institute, her work also emphasizes diversity, equity, and inclusion in research, supporting trainees from underrepresented backgrounds in their pathways toward independent careers in biomedical research.
