Biography

Sarah Morales (Su-taxwiye) is an Associate Professor at the University of Victoria's Faculty of Law, where she also serves as the Associate Dean Indigenous and Director of the JD/JID Program. She is a Coast Salish member of the Cowichan Tribes. Morales's research is primarily focused on Indigenous legal traditions, particularly those of Coast Salish peoples, emphasizing Aboriginal law and human rights. Her work involves nation-building efforts, the recognition of inherent rights and jurisdiction, and the promotion of international human rights law for Indigenous peoples. She has collaborated with her community on various initiatives, including legislative reforms related to child welfare, the development of community safety and well-being policies, and Indigenous governance planning. Her notable publications include analyses of Indigenous jurisdiction, ecological integrity, and the impact of agreements under UNDRIP. Morales is actively seeking to supervise graduate students in areas related to torts, international human rights, and Indigenous law.
