Biography

Sarah Nicholson came to Glasgow in 2000 after completing her PhD at the University of St Andrews under the supervision of Peter Coxon. Her thesis focused on the tragic vision in the Saul narrative and its post-biblical echoes in the works of Alphonse de Lamartine and Thomas Hardy. She maintains a strong interest in the Saul narrative and its appearances in modern literature, balancing themes of feminism and popular culture in her work. Her conference papers often explore biblical themes as illustrated in contemporary media, such as the 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' series. Currently, her research includes biblical prostitution narratives and their relationship to sex work in the material world. Sarah's teaching includes classical Hebrew, biblical literature, and methods of biblical interpretation, with specific interests in the tragic vision of the Old Testament/Tanakh and feminist and queer approaches to biblical literature.
