Biography

Sarah Power is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Population Health and Applied Health Sciences at Memorial University of Newfoundland. She completed her undergraduate studies in electrical engineering at Memorial University and pursued her graduate studies at the University of Toronto, where she earned both her Master's and PhD degrees. With a strong background in biomedical engineering, Dr. Power’s research focuses on physiological signal processing and pattern recognition, particularly in the realm of brain-computer interfaces (BCIs). Her current research program aims to develop non-invasive passive BCIs for monitoring mental states through electroencephalography (EEG), with applications in high-risk work environments such as cognitive load and stress monitoring. In her teaching role, she has primarily instructed courses related to analog and digital signal processing in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Dr. Power is also actively involved in mentoring undergraduate and graduate students interested in biomedical engineering. Beyond her teaching and research activities, she has been recognized with multiple awards, including the NSERC Postgraduate Scholarship for her doctoral studies and the NSERC Canada Graduate Scholarship during her master's program.
