Dr. Sarah Sperry

Biography

Dr. Sarah Sperry is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Psychology at the University of Michigan. She holds a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and has completed her clinical internship at the Medical University of South Carolina Charleston Consortium. Her postdoctoral training was at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Dr. Sperry serves as the director of the Emotion Temporal Dynamics (EmoTe) Lab and as the Associate Director of the Heinz C. Prechter Bipolar Research Program. Her research is focused on improving early detection and predicting illness trajectory in bipolar spectrum disorders, as well as developing personalized interventions. Utilizing mobile technology such as smartphones and wearable devices, she employs intensive longitudinal modeling to explore intraindividual variability in real-world contexts concerning emotion, sleep, circadian rhythms, and impulsivity. Dr. Sperry is a licensed clinical psychologist who actively treats adults with bipolar-related disorders using evidence-based interventions and supervises practicum students, postdoctoral fellows, and clinical trainees.
