Biography

Professor Sarah Spurgeon is the Head of the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering at University College London. She directs the UCL Robotics Institute and has held academic positions at the University of Loughborough, University of Leicester, and University of Kent. She became Professor of Engineering at the University of Leicester in 2002 and served as Head of the Department of Engineering from 2006 to 2008. From 2008 to 2016, she was the Head of the School of Engineering and Digital Arts at the University of Kent. With a career spanning numerous prestigious roles, Sarah's contributions to control engineering have been recognized through over 300 published research papers. Her research interests encompass systems modeling, analysis, robust control, and estimation. She has received several awards including the Honeywell International Medal for distinguished contribution to control measurement technology and the IEEE Millennium Medal. Sarah has also served as a Distinguished Lecturer for the IEEE Control Systems Society and was the President of the Engineering Professors Council. Additionally, she has been involved with EngineeringUK and the International Federation of Automatic Control.
