Dr. Sarah Todd

Biography

Sarah Todd is a Full Professor in the School of Social Work at Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada. With degrees in Master of Social Work from McMaster University and a Doctorate in Education from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, her research interests focus on the professionalization of social work, social work education, community work practices, and the analysis of whiteness and post-structuralism. Todd collaborates on various innovative research projects, including the SIM Social Work Research Lab, investigating how social work practitioners navigate uncertainty through simulation methods. Her work emphasizes the importance of including clinical practice aspects that are difficult to observe or measure, challenging traditional positivist notions. She has received funding from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council Explorer Grant and is involved with the Canada Foundation for Innovation. Over her career, she has published extensively in numerous refereed journals, addressing critical themes in social work and education. She is actively engaged in editing significant volumes on community development and social work practices, and her contributions are recognized in leading academic publications in the field.
