Biography

Sarah Tribout-Joseph is a Senior Lecturer in French Francophone Studies at the University of Edinburgh. She began her academic career with a PhD from the University of Cambridge and subsequently took a teaching fellowship at the University of St Andrews in 2004 before joining the University of Edinburgh in 2005. Dr. Tribout-Joseph's teaching includes a final-year option on The Modern City: Paris and she serves as Programme Director for the MSc in Comparative Literature. Her research interests span 19th to 21st-century French Francophone studies, with a particular focus on representations of cities, suburbs, and edgelands in literature and film, and the intersections of marginalization and social justice. She has supervised numerous PhD students and is involved in exploring questions of vulnerability and care in the context of Medical Humanities. Her notable past research includes a monograph on discourse in Proust and Joyce and an AHRC-funded project on close textual analysis of visual imagery in Proust. Dr. Tribout-Joseph is currently engaged in projects that look at the representation of invisible aspects of urban life through literature and film, and she is keen on developing interventionist reading strategies that address social issues in her ongoing research endeavors.
