Biography

Sarah Ward is a genetic epidemiologist with extensive experience in investigating the determinants of common and complex diseases. She currently serves as a Senior Research Fellow at the Medical School of the University of Western Australia, where she is a recipient of the Department of Health WA Emerging Leaders Fellowship. Dr. Ward previously held the NHMRC CJ Martin Biomedical Early Career Fellowship and has spent years as a Visiting Investigator at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in the USA. She has a Bachelor's degree in Commerce (majoring in Management and Marketing) and a Bachelor's degree in Science (majoring in Anatomy & Human Biology and Genetics) with a First Class Honours degree in Anatomy & Human Biology, all from the University of Western Australia. She completed her PhD in melanoma genetic epidemiology at the same institution. Her primary research focus is on investigating genetic and environmental factors that affect the risk of survival in melanoma. Dr. Ward leads the Western Australian Melanoma Health Study, a population-based study that she established as part of her PhD. She is also involved in large international consortia and has worked with international multi-site datasets. Her work aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in relation to education and genetic epidemiology.
