Biography

Sarah Worthington is a Professor of Law at the London School of Economics, having returned in 2022 after serving as Downing Professor of Law at the University of Cambridge for 11 years. She is a Fellow of Trinity College and the Director of the Cambridge Private Law Centre, which she established upon arriving at Cambridge. Her research primarily focuses on controversial issues relating to personal property rights and the abuse of power in both commercial and not-for-profit corporate contexts. Sarah has held various visiting appointments in Australia and Hong Kong and has collaborated with law reform bodies in the UK, Europe, and Australia. Besides her research endeavors, she is actively engaged in governance and strategy, having spent five years as Pro-Director at LSE. Currently, she chairs the LSE Press and serves on the board of several charities and institutions, including the British Museum, where she was Treasurer of the British Academy from 2015 to 2020. Sarah has been recognized for her contributions to private law, being appointed QC (Hon) in 2010 and awarded a DBE in 2020 for her services to the field.
