Biography

Sarbattama "Rimi" Sen is a neonatologist and Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the Alpert Medical School of Brown University, as well as the Vice Chair of Pediatric Clinical Research at Women and Infants Hospital. Dr. Sen completed her training in pediatrics and neonatal-perinatal medicine at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, where she developed a research focus on early life programming and its impact on cardiometabolic health. Her overarching mission is to develop mechanism-driven interventions that improve equitable access to care and enhance metabolic health for mothers and infants. Dr. Sen leads a team conducting translational observational studies in areas such as lactation, milk composition, neonatal hypoglycemia, maternal metabolism, and the brain neurophysiology of infants. She is also involved in clinical trials and quality improvement projects aimed at implementing and evaluating clinical practice changes. Dr. Sen has co-created interventions to foster equitable pathways in perinatal nutrition, lactation, and mental health support, thereby nurturing the health of the mother-infant dyad. Throughout her career, she has mentored numerous trainees, contributing to the development of future generations of physician-scientists.
