Biography

Sarchil H. Qader is a Senior Research Fellow at the School of Geography and Environmental Science at the University of Southampton. He received his BSc degree in Soil Science in 2005 and an MSc degree in Applied Remote Sensing and GIS for Drought Monitoring from the University of Sulaimani, Kurdistan, in 2010. He completed his PhD at the School of Geography and Environmental Science at the University of Southampton, UK, in 2016, focusing on monitoring decadal land cover and crop production for food security in Iraq using time-series remote sensing data. Since 2016, Sarchil has been a staff member at the School of Geography and Environmental Science, leading a variety of projects in the WorldPop research group. His expertise lies in utilizing big datasets and remote sensing to improve traditional methods of national population sampling frames in low- and middle-income countries, particularly in agriculture. Current research includes developing innovative ideas for creating gridded, sensible national sampling frames and leading the development of the preEA tool, which automates the creation and updating of digitized census Enumeration Areas. He also investigates the impacts of climate change on vegetation phenology and agricultural productivity using Earth Observation Data.
