Biography

Sarma V. Pisupati is a distinguished professor in the Department of Energy and Mineral Engineering at Penn State University, where he has contributed to the field of energy engineering for over forty years. He received his Ph.D. in Fuel Science from Pennsylvania State University and has been instrumental in establishing the undergraduate Energy Engineering degree program, achieving ABET accreditation and serving as program chair for eleven years. Pisupati’s research focuses on chemical kinetics, mass and heat transfer in combustion of solid fuels, and advanced energy methods including oxy-fuel combustion and gasification. He has led significant funded research projects targeting critical mineral extraction and environmental impacts, actively participating as the principal investigator on more than seventy projects. As a prominent member of his professional community, Pisupati has been elected as a Fellow of the American Chemical Society and the Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers, engaging in numerous professional organizations and conferences. He has authored and co-authored 240 research publications and is known for his dedication to teaching and mentoring, receiving multiple awards for excellence in education.
