Biography

Sarwat Chaudhry, MD is a board-certified internist who completed clinical training at the University of Chicago before coming to Yale for postdoctoral fellowship training in the Clinical Scholars Program. He holds a position as Professor of Medicine in the Section of General Medicine and serves as Associate Dean for Student Research and Co-Director of the National Clinician Scholars Program. Dr. Chaudhry leads a portfolio of NIH-funded research focusing primarily on diversifying the physician-scientist workforce and improving quality and safety in hospital-based care. His major interests include enhancing the representation of racial and ethnic minorities and socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds in the physician-scientist workforce. Chaudhry is the founding director of the Yale Center for Healthcare Innovation, Redesign, and Learning (CHIRAL), which aims to improve patient care transitions in hospital settings. He is recognized for his expertise in clinical study design and has mentored numerous junior faculty, residents, and students interested in clinical research. Dr. Chaudhry is also actively involved in improving outcomes for older patients hospitalized with acute cardiovascular conditions.
