Dr. Sascha Delz

Biography

Sascha Delz is an architect and researcher working at the intersection of architecture, urban design, and urban studies. He holds a Master of Architecture and a Doctorate in Science from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH Zurich). His research engages contemporary urbanization processes, focusing on the specific political-economic frameworks that influence the manifestation of architecture and urban form in living environments. He addresses challenges related to uneven development and the exclusive distribution of urban resources, particularly through advancing knowledge in equitable collaborative practices for urban production and developing non-profit models for adequate affordable housing. In addition to his research efforts, Sascha has practiced as an architect in Zurich and New York and has been actively involved in teaching activities, instructing architectural and urban design planning studios, and conducting interdisciplinary research design workshops. He also served as a research fellow at the Future Cities Laboratory in Singapore and the Ethiopian Institute of Architecture, Building Construction and City Development at Addis Ababa University. As an assistant professor at the University of Southern California, he focuses on collective cooperative models for urban housing, infrastructure, and services that can potentially create inclusive and sustainable urban environments.
