Biography

Sasha Wilson is a Professor and Canada Research Chair in Biogeochemistry of Sustainable Mineral Resources at the University of Alberta, located in Edmonton, Canada. His research focuses on the environmental aspects of economic geology, emphasizing the behavior of minerals, crystal chemistry, and isotope geochemistry. Wilson's work employs techniques such as field sampling, laboratory analyses, and synchrotron light sources to understand and manage environmental change in engineered landscapes. He participates in projects that aim to use carbonation of wastes to remove CO2 from the atmosphere while enhancing the recovery of critical metals and producing clean energy. He has a historical career, having served as an Associate Professor and Senior Lecturer at Monash University in Australia, where he also held a prestigious Australian Research Council Discovery Early Career Researcher Award. In addition, he was a NASA Astrobiology Institute Postdoctoral Fellow at Indiana University. Wilson currently teaches courses in Environmental Earth Sciences, including EAS 224, which introduces students to the role of minerals in biogeochemical processes, and EAS 354, which provides advanced training in environmental monitoring and sampling.
