Biography

Sasha Wilson is a Professor at the University of Alberta in the Faculty of Science, specializing in Earth and Atmospheric Sciences. With a focus on the environmental aspects of economic geology, Wilson's research encompasses economic geology, geobiology, geochemistry, mineralogy, and sedimentology. She is a Canada Research Chair in Biogeochemistry of Sustainable Mineral Resources. Her work investigates the behavior of minerals, especially the interactions between mineral, fluid, and microbes, to understand and manage environmental change in engineered landscapes. Wilson employs advanced techniques including carbonate waste utilization for CO2 removal and critical metal recovery, and conducts field and laboratory analysis on sediment geochemistry and stable isotopes. In addition to her research contributions, she teaches Environmental Earth Sciences at the University of Alberta, aiming to instill knowledge about the role of minerals in planetary biogeochemical evolution. Her teaching portfolio includes courses on environmental monitoring and quaternary geology, aligning both practical and theoretical approaches to learning in her fields of expertise.
