Dr. Saskia Arndt

Biography

Saskia Arndt is a Professor of Animal Behaviour at Utrecht University, focusing on the development and translation of behaviour-related concepts and methods targeting animal welfare. With a background in ethology and zoology, she has worked at esteemed research institutes including the Yerkes National Primate Research Center and the German Primate Center. She obtained her PhD 'Summa Cum Laude' in 2004 and began her career at Utrecht University in 2005 as an Associate Professor in Animal Welfare Behaviour. Her research emphasizes the refinement of animal experiments and the validity of animal models, along with addressing issues of professional integrity in the usage of animals. Arndt is also a head of the Animal Behaviour Clinic and a key researcher in the Artificial Intelligence & Animal Welfare lab at Utrecht University. She contributes expertise to various committees and is an active member of Utrecht Life Sciences 3Rs Centre. Her passion for animal welfare strives to enhance the integration of expertise within veterinary care and sustainable strategies for animal welfare. Additionally, she delivered her inaugural lecture on December 10, 2018.
