Biography

Saskia Lettmaier was appointed to a professorship for Civil Law and Global Legal History with a focus on Common Law in 2024. Previously, she held a chair for Civil Law and German and European Legal History at the Christian-Albrechts-University of Kiel. Since 2016, she has also served as a judge at the Schleswig-Holstein Higher Regional Court, and since 2024, she has been a member of the Children's Rights Commission of the Family Law Association. Her research interests include civil law, particularly family and inheritance law, historical, comparative, international private law, and interdisciplinary perspectives on English and continental European legal history, especially that of the early modern period and modernity, legal comparisons, law and religion, law and literature. She welcomes promotional inquiries from internal and external applicants at any time.
