Biography

Saskia van Mil is a Full Professor of Molecular Translational Metabolism at the University Medical Center Utrecht. She serves as the Director of the Center for Molecular Medicine. She is a member of the governing board and scientific committee of the European Association for the Study of the Liver. She obtained her PhD from the University of Utrecht in 2004, focusing on genetic disorders related to pediatric cholestasis. Following her PhD, she completed a postdoctoral position at Imperial College London, where she studied the role of the bile salt sensor, farnesoid X receptor (FXR), in intrahepatic cholestasis during pregnancy. Her research interests lie in understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying metabolic diseases associated with cancer development, with the aim of contributing to the development of improved diagnostic and therapeutic approaches. She has been awarded funding from the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research for her projects, including Veni, Vidi, and Vici grants. Additionally, she collaborates with various foundations to advance research in the field.
